About the role
This is a voluntary position. Key requirements for the successful applicant include:
- Alignment with DEA’s mission and advocacy goals.
- AICD or equivalent certification strongly desired.
- Experience in growing a small not-for-profit organisation involving organisational transition and transformation.
- Experience in marketing an organisation and growing its profile amongst membership, the public, and target groups.
- Established networks with potential partners and donors whose values align with DEA’s mission.
- Strong understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks applicable to nonprofit organisations.
- Familiarity with the governance principles and best practices for nonprofit boards
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders and potential donors.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.

About the organisation
Doctors for the Environment Australia (DEA) is an organisation of medical professionals that protect human health through care of the environment. The devastating impacts of climate change on human health and the solutions needed to address this grave threat are a major focus of our work.
Our members are GPs, surgeons, physicians, anaesthetists, psychiatrists, paediatricians, public health specialists, academics, medical students and researchers, bringing leadership and expertise from every branch of medicine.
DEA is a medium-sized, not-for-profit entity, with four staff. We are funded predominantly by our members (doctors and medical students), along with some philanthropic funding.

Our advocacy centres on climate action to protect human health and building a sustainable healthcare sector with the ultimate aim of fostering a biodiverse planet that supports our health and prosperity.
